Gorgoeus collection in a historical palace with unique staircases and monumentaly decorated rooms from different periods. Eclectic experience of styles, materials and lighting decisions. Free entry for students which was great, ordinary tickets are €6. It takes 1 to 1,5 hours to see it all. The model of old Bologna is surprisingly small but very detailed and fun to look at with its iconic towers, that exist no more.

Really wonderful museum, it’s got a very impressive collection of paintings, statues, artifacts, antiques, busts and many other works of art. It’s very well preserved and displayed, the rooms are filled with lots to see. I really enjoyed my time here and I would certainly like to go back someday. I highly recommend checking out this lovely museum.

A medium sized collection of art and furnishings and a small amount of modern exhibits. Very hot with no air conditioning but good views from the open windows. Worth the price of admission. A little difficult to find but persist and keep going up.

Exhibitions were wonderful but avoid visiting during summer. No aircon and super hot and stuffy inside. Feel bad for the staff who have to stay there all day.

Worthwhile a visit to the Commune of Bologna Arte collection, among this fine collection you will find a painting by Artemisia Gentileschi…in my opinion an incredible woman.. She was a daughter of a painter, her father is a close friend of Michelangelo Merisi di Caravaggio... and its probable that this young woman met him…Michelangelo Merisi had a great influence on her work.
Artemisia started painting at an early age in a poor quarter of Naples. At 18 she was raped by an associate of her father...soon after she married a painter... and for some fifteen years worked in Rome, Florence, Genoa, Venice and possibly London where her father was commissioned by the British Royal Family , eventually returning to Naples with her six children. She must have a quick mind to keep long term friendships with Galileo and Cassiani Dal Pozzo. Her painting, Judith and Holofernes.. transmits viciousness and realism.... Artemisia not to be held back by her hardships, achieved greatness in a craft dominated by men... Some facts about Bologna… the first Maserati was made here in 1912.. and the logo chosen was the trident of Neptune, Son of Frederich 11 was kept prisoner in the castello for 23 years and found love with a peasant girl…., abolished slaves in the 12 century, of the 12000 plus resistance fighters in WW11.. over 2000 were women, tortellini are over rated and Bologna does not have the oldest university in the world…
